“I am extremely excited about taking on this role with MCAC, and to working with the dedicated staff and volunteers from coast-to-coast,” said Bavis. “It is a very exciting time for the mechanical contracting industry in Canada, and I am looking forward to the positive progress we can make on behalf of our members.”
Bavis brings to MCAC more than 40 years of experience in the mechanical contracting industry in Canada. He began his career as an apprentice plumber in 1974, and began working in estimating, procurement and project management where he spent 17 years with Becker Contractors, and more than 20 years with the Cahill Group. Bavis continues to provide his expertise to the Cahill Group in its work across Canada.
“It gives me great pleasure to step into this role,” Bavis added. “Having worked with the MCAC Board since 2009, and worked previously with MCA Newfoundland and Labrador before, I know the value that our association brings to the mechanical contracting industry in Canada on issues of importance to our members.”
MCAC has in the past year worked very diligently on several files, including the promotion of prompt payment across Canada and the naming of subtrades in tender documents, including PSPC’s recent commitment to the practice in several pilot projects. MCAC has also taken a strong stance against the use of community benefits clauses in the procurement process and is working with like-minded stakeholder groups to oppose the practice.
In addition, MCAC remains dedicated to ongoing education for the industry, and providing its members access to industry-leading education and training through the Construction Education Council. The association is also taking important steps to support the service contractor sector of the mechanical contracting industry.
