The Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) and the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that confirms the long-standing partnership and collaboration between the two associations.
"We feel extremely fortunate to count MCAA as one of our strongest allies and partners,” said Wayne Davidson, MCAC President & Chair. "We share many of the same issues and concerns as MCAA and have always appreciated the opportunity to meet and discuss with our American counterparts on these topics. This MOU solidifies a spirit of cooperation and collaboration between our two organizations.”
"The MCAA is thankful for the many years of partnership with the MCA of Canada,” said Armand Kilijian, MCAA Immediate Past President. "We appreciate the open dialogue and collective brainpower as we discuss shared challenges to advance the mechanical industry together.”
In addition to the promotion of the mechanical contracting sector, the MOU also sets out guidelines on the sharing of educational resources, industry best practices, as well as attendance at MCAA and MCAC events. MCAA and MCAC will continue their involvement in the International Alliance of Mechanical Contractor Associations, an international group which meets annually to discuss common issues of concern for mechanical contractors in North America, Great Britain and Australia.
The Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) and the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCA Canada) want to share the messages about the importance of proceeding together in collaboration to meet the federal government's Emissions Reduction Plan and commitment to funding the Net Zero-Emissions Building Strategy as outlined in the recent federal budget.
As part of a joint submission to Natural Resources Canada, MCAC and CIPH recommended:
- prioritizing alignment between provinces, territories with industry buy-in for
updates to Canada’s building codes and standards,
- retrofit investments of $20 billion to reflect similar investments in housing and
new infrastructure committed by the federal government,
- workforce development investments of $1.25 billion in education, training and
upskilling related to energy efficiency and climate resilience, as recommended by
the Recovery Task Force, and
- investing $10 million per year over the next five years to market and promote the
plumbing and mechanical trades for their valuable contributions to improving
environmental outcomes, including $2 million to promote these trades to
underrepresented groups.
