We would like to remind you that the next MCA Canada Annual National Conference will be held at the Silverado Resort in Napa Valley, California on October 18-21, 2023.
We anticipate this conference to sell out quickly, so mark your calendars now.
It is with great sadness to share that MCA Canada Past Chairman, Mel Prowse, passed away on Sunday, November 20.
Mel was Chairman of MCA Canada from 2002 to 2004. Mel gave countless volunteer hours to the industry while running H. Griffiths Company Ltd. in Woodbridge, ON.
The Native Women’s Association of Canada's (NWAC's) National Apprenticeships Program (NAP) is a tool towards reconciliation, creating welcoming workplaces for Indigenous Women to thrive by fighting their under-representation in the skilled trades and providing a wide pool of candidates to help the industry battle the shortage of workers.
If you are an employer in construction or manufacturing and you are looking for skilled workers, NWAC will support your efforts by giving you access to NAP’s job board where Indigenous Women apprentices are ready and motivated to start learning as a new first-year Red Seal apprentice and the Government of Canada will grant up to $10,000 to cover the cost of the on-the-job training.
Through this collaboration, we hope to:
- offer independent and expert advice,
- be available for virtual meetings to share experiences,
- mutually promote, via social media, directly and indirectly the NAP,
- participate in discussions and suggest recommendations that could be mutually beneficial to both organizations as it pertains to the NAP,
- facilitate and promote collaboration with SME’s in their trade areas, regarding the NAP, if applicable,
- exchange training materials and cultural awareness resources to recruit, retain, and mentor under-represented groups, if applicable, and
- analyze the barriers and challenges Indigenous Women, Two Spirit, and gender-diverse individuals face in these industries to better help them develop their careers.

Some of the subjects covered in the presentation will include encapsulated mass timber construction, large farm buildings, home-type care occupancy, openable windows in residential occupancies, energy efficiency tiers for all buildings, and accessibility.
The webinar takes place on December 14 at 1 p.m. ET.
Registration is free to anyone who wishes to attend.
The MCA Canada Jobsite Journal is a daily log to help track projects, including:
• site conditions, • weather conditions, • productivity/time loss and reasons, • area/work in progress, • subtrade reports, • daily report reminders, • and more.
Daily and Weekly Reports track work site conditions, progress and delays which prevent costly claims. The Daily Reports record work site conditions and progress, while the Weekly Reports detail delays and provide space to give a more specific explanation of that week's progress.

Download any labour table as soon as data is exported into Microsoft Excel or CSV.
Up-to-date labour units are available on our website on the latest products and joining methods. When items are new or changed, they will be highlighted in yellow over the next 12 months.
