INDUSTRY HIGHLIGHTS
MCAM extends a sincere congratulations to Alana Crocker in her recent appointment to the position of Manager of Development & Inspections Division with the City of Winnipeg. Alana joined the Planning, Property & Development Department in 2015. As the Interim Manager of the Development & Inpsections Division for the past nine months, Alana successfully led the division through the process of rebuilding public trust under the compounding challenges of the pandemic. MCAM is confident the continued strengthening of the MCAM/City of Winnipeg partnership will gain momentum under Crocker's leadership.
Quality of Design Documents – Productivity & Efficiency – Procurement Policies & Best Practices. The National Trade Contractors Council of Canada (NTCCC) along with industry partners have commissioned the Ryerson Institute for Infrastructure Innovation to undertake a study exploring the impacts of design documentation quality on productivity and efficiency.
The study will explore how improved design documentation and increased upfront investment from owners improves productivity as well as reduce delays, change orders, and cost overruns. The goal of the study is to provide tangible data to inform public procurement policies and best practices, and encourage investment in design/constructability and design documentation.
The first phase of the study is a national survey inviting owners, contractors and consultants/design professionals to contribute their opinions. With more in-depth interviews and project data collection representing Phases 2 and 3.
MCAM IN ACTION
MCAM National Director Brad Mason and Executive Director Ramona Coey participate annually during the national mid-year meeting in Ottawa with MCAC and CIPH on a joint "Day on the Hill." Pandemic environmental challenges provided for a new format to ensure federal governement political and staff leadership were heard by the mechanical industry. The attached report outlines the conversation of the government-industry roundtable hosted by the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) and Canadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating (CIPH) June 23. The virtual roundtable was attended by leaders from Canada’s plumbing and mechanical sector and officials from several key government departments and agencies.

Dear Wayne,
I am the sole proprietor for a local plumbing and HVAC company. I have been in business for more than 20 years after my father retired. I am not a member with MCAM and am wondering what the benefits would be for my business and I if we were to become a member. I have recently read news on some of the events MCAM hosts throughout the year and I would like to get involved. Can you let me know what the benefits are in becoming a member, how much value it would be for my company and where I should start?
Sincerely,
