March 23, 2023 - Honourable James Teitsma, Minister of Consumer Protection and Government Services, brought forward the first reading of Bill 38 - The Builders' Liens Amendment Act (Prompt Payment).
The Manitoba government is adjusting the Small Business Minimum Wage Adjustment Program to streamline the application process and enable small businesses to receive support as one-time funding.
The Manitoba government's economic review for 2023-24 shows the province's fiscal position continues to improve, Economic Development, Investment and Trade Minister Jeff Wharton announced.
In December of 2022, Inspections and Technical Services (ITS) solicited feedback MCAM and ECAM may have regarding the Provincial plan to adopt the 2020 National Building Codes and Manitoba regulatory amendments. MCAM provided the attached submission.
As key stakeholders of issues related to apprenticeship wage rates, MCAM and ECAM identified the review as an item of significance for the membership and Boards of Directors.

The Provincial Fire and Life Safety (PFLS) Project is a $286 million, multi-year province-wide initiative to decrease fire risk in all Manitoba hospital and personal care homes.
Winnipeg’s long-awaited CentrePort Canada Airport Area West regional water and wastewater project will go ahead as part of a $140-million investment in nine municipal projects by the Manitoba government.
To position the City of Portage la Prairie for future growth, the Manitoba government is investing in the expansion of the city's water treatment plant. The expansion is one of eight municipal projects in rural Manitoba receiving up to $100 million.
New Grant Program Now Accepting Applications to Help Municipalities with Long-Term Infrastructure Planning.
The Manitoba government is providing $220,000 to two organizations for green transportation projects, including the installation of new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) has issued letters to apply to the program to the latest round of candidates in an expression of interest (EOI) draw with a specific focus on addressing labour market gaps in Manitoba.
The Apprenticeship Support Project is a federal grant that can provide companies in the construction sector with up to $20,000 per year for having first-year apprentices in red seal trades. It is open to companies with less than 500 employees. Applications are easy to complete and payment is issued once applications are approved.

The Richard McKeagan Scholarship Series, named in honour of past-CEO Richard McKeagan, is supported by MCAC Associate Members and MCA partners from across Canada who provide the funding for the program and the various scholarships offered. Since its launch in 2006, the scholarship series has awarded more than $100,000 to deserving post-secondary students.
