At the time, the document was comprehensive, but the overwhelming rate of change in supply chains and other factors, like technology, has prompted the creators to work on a second edition of the Roadmap for release in 2017.

Ford recently announced that they planned to deploy fully autonomous ride-hailing cars by 2021, perhaps as a direct response to Uber’s popularity and move to go autonomous. Ford’s version would look similar to Google’s removing the steering wheel and pedals completely. The goal is to reach Level 4 automation as determined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

The USDA is developing a film for wrapping food products made from the milk protein casein. The film resembles plastic wrap, but is less stretchy. Researchers are already seeing multiple benefits from using the film. First, it’s biodegradable, sustainable, and edible. Less plastic means less of it sitting in trash heaps. While edible products are not new, this film could replace some of the most often discarded plastic products, those made for pre-packaged food.
