MHI Updates
On a regular basis throughout the year, MHI releases videos as part of its MHIview platform. MHIview is an innovative video approach to education that illustrates and informs on the latest and emerging trends in the material handling and supply chain industry. These are the top eight videos of 2019.
Material handling is an essential part of supply chains around the world and is a vital part of our growing digital economy. This is why MHI worked with Oxford Economics to produce the first-ever Economic Impact Report. MHI commissioned this report with Oxford Economics to quantify the economic impact that this vital industry has across all industries and regions of the United States. That impact in 2018 amounted to more than $173.2 billion in GDP, as well as $39.3 billion in taxes to local, state and federal governments.
A soil classification is assigned to a location based on the characteristics of the types of soils present, including the ability of the soil to withstand the weight of the structures built on it. Therefore, it’s important to have this information available for a rack design engineer, as the soil classification contributes to the overall geological and seismic risk determination.
Technology and Innovation
AGVs—computer-controlled, wheel-based load carriers that travel throughout a facility to retrieve, transport and deliver loads from one point to another—are a flexible solution that supplements the human workforce and enables reassignment of associates to more challenging, value-added and productive tasks. Here, we dispel four common misconceptions about AGVs.
Overhead handling solutions like cranes, monorails and hoists are on the cutting edge of load lifting, transport and positioning. And, like the vast majority of material handling equipment, these systems have only grown in their capabilities as they’ve been enhanced with the latest available safety and productivity boosting technologies. Indeed, many of today’s overhead lifting systems are outfitted with as many as seven key technologies to help their owners ensure the safety of their operation while increasing handling speed and precision.
Transportation
To truly understand e-commerce’s impact on supply chains, follow the movement of goods through the middle mile, e.g. from port to warehouse/DC, between warehouse and from warehouse to e-commerce storage areas.
