The Wall Street Journal—Package-delivery companies ramped up hiring in June for the third month in a row, swellingpayrolls in a sector that has grown as more consumers shop online. Parcel carriers and delivery firms added 4,200 jobs last month, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said in its June jobs report released Friday. The boost brought overall employment in that sector to 666,500 jobs, the highest point since December 2016, when e-commerce sales surged ahead of the holidays.

Transport Topics—Highway tractors with 6×2 power configurations have been heralded as an important technology for improving fuel mileage, but fleet owners have been hesitant in selecting the systems because they have a tendency to run through tires more quickly and because diesel is less costly than it was earlier this decade.

Bloomberg—Cosco Shipping Holdings Co. offered $6.3 billion to acquire the container carrier controlled by former Hong Kong Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa’s family in a deal that would catapult the mainland Chinese group into the world’s third-largest shipping line.

CSCMP's Supply Chain Quarterly—The supply chain management (SCM) software market will exceed US$13 billion in total revenue by the end of 2017, up 11 percent from 2016, according to the technology research and advisory firm Gartner Inc. This increase puts the market on pace to exceed $19 billion by 2021, as software-as-a-service (SaaS) enables new revenue opportunities, analysts said in the research note "Forecast Overview: Supply Chain Management, Worldwide, 2016 Update."
