Today, ProMat kicks it into high gear with not one, but two keynote speakers. This morning you’ll receive a preview from MHI’s CEO, George Prest, on the MHI 2017 Annual Industry Report, and in the afternoon you can hear from Earvin "Magic" Johnson on the "Power of Magic!" There will be more education sessions throughout the day and the Expo Hall will be in full swing. The day finishes up with live music, food, drinks and entertainment by Dana Carvey at the MHI Industry Night. ProMat is almost over. Make this the best day yet!
MHI will preview the 2017 Annual Industry Report – Next-Generation Supply Chains: Digital, On-Demand and Always-On during the morning keynote. Scott Sopher, the principal with Deloitte Consulting LLP’s Supply Chain practice will join George W. Prest, CEO of MHI, to present the findings of the 2017 report that details the nine innovations that are driving this change from traditional to digital supply chains. This is the fourth MHI Annual Industry Report released by MHI in collaboration with Deloitte Consulting.
If there’s one theme to Magic Johnson’s career, it’s to see the opportunity that others have ignored, particularly in urban communities. According to Johnson, you have to look like America looks, keep up with changing demographics and know your customer or you will miss out on opportunities. Click below for 11 amazing facts about this ProMat 2017 keynote speaker. All keynotes are held in Room S100 on Level 1 of McCormick Place South.
MHI is pretty "pumped" to have comedian Dana Carvey headlining MHI Industry Night at ProMat 2017. Also during Industry Night, the 2017 MHI Innovation Awards will be given to ProMat exhibitors in three categories: Best New Innovation, Best IT Innovation and Best Innovation of an Existing Product. Tickets for MHI Industry Night are $50 and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Material Handling Education Foundation, Inc. Plus, the door prize is a $30,000 trip of a lifetime. Tickets may be purchased at registration.
As a leader in the material handling and supply chain industry, MHI re-launched an awareness campaign designed to not only promote manufacturing and supply chain as an innovative and rewarding career choice, but to also change the perception of jobs in the industry. The goal of the #iWorkInTheSupplyChain campaign was to connect, engage and inspire next-generation workers to pursue manufacturing and supply chain careers. MHI received 16 #iWorkInTheSupplyChain blog entries, one of which will win the 2017 Face of Supply Chain Award presented during Industry Night at ProMat 2017.
If seeing is believing, then there will be a lot of truth being shared during the course of ProMat. Each day, a video crew will be interviewing keynotes, talking to exhibitors, getting feedback from attendees and sharing their view of the action at ProMat. The videos will be emailed out daily or you can access this link to catch up on what you missed or to see the latest clips.
"Let me tell you, there is a lot happening out there," said Gregg Goodner, President of MHI, about the show floor and education sessions at ProMat 2017. "I think you will find a lot of things you can take back home....This is the largest ProMat that we’ve had." The Keynote on Day Two, Markus Lorenz, Partner and Managing Director, The Boston Consulting Group, continued that trend. He led an insightful, example-filled, yogurt-laden discussion about "Industry 4.0, How Intelligent machines are transforming supply chains." As Goodner explained, "Industry 4.0...impacting not only our industry but our global economy....It is how the technology will be transforming the industrial workforce all the way through 2025."
Specific examples and detailed guidelines were part of the education session, "Preparing to Automate: How to evaluate your operations," led by Aaron Corcoran of Westfalia. But, all potential changes to your operations have to begin the same – with the questions, "Where to start?" and "What’s your 80/20?"
If you saw the line threading around and through the exhibitor stations near Theater F yesterday, you were probably looking at the waiting line to get into the session on the Material Handling & Logistics U.S. Roadmap 2.0, "Get Ready for the Next 10 Years in Material Handling and Logistics." Inside, attendees were sitting snugly shoulder to shoulder, absorbing as much as they could from the session speakers: Gary Forger, Editor and Consultant to MHI; Charles Edwards, N.C. Department of Transportation; Bill Ferrell, Clemson University; Steve Hopper, Inviscid Consulting; Dana Magliola, N.C. State University; and Dave Schneider, We Are The Practitioners – David K. Schneider & Company.
Dr. David DeLong started off the session on "Closing the Skills Gap: Innovative Talent Solutions for a Changing Workforce" with an attention-grabbing example about making assumptions. "Are you telling me you’re not my flight instructor?" was the question the pilot asked the sole passenger, a news photographer who had jumped into the plane and told him to take off. They were already up in the air and flying toward a wildfire.
