Two noteworthy storms hit on opposite sides of the globe during the past few days, and hotel companies are reacting to the properties and guests affected by the storms. As of early September, when many U.S. travelers were embarking on their Labor Day weekend trips, United Airlines quietly increased its checked-baggage fees to and from North America, the Caribbean and Central America. In each of those markets, for tickets purchased from Aug. 31 and beyond, the first-bag fee has gone up by $5 — a 20 percent increase — to $30. |
