Events
Last month, we celebrated Global Meetings Industry Month with several events at both the chapter and global levels. To close out the celebration locally, MPI Southern California Chapter hosted a virtual event with world-class magician and mentalist Rmax Goodwin, who did not disappoint.
Goodwin, who is a Los Angeles native, began performing at a young age and has seen recent fame from appearances on "Masters of Illusion" and for his consultant work for "America’s Got Talent" champions.
Our official return to in-person will be a celebratory chapter event on Sunday, Aug. 15-16. Save the date for the MPI Southern California Family Reunion, a special evening of celebration followed by a morning of education, hosted by Terranea Resort. Our trusted partners at Terranea have been by our side over the past year and are excited to host our inaugural in-person experience. There is no better way to return to events than by experiencing the hospitality of Los Angeles' premier oceanfront resort. Plan to be with us for the evening and through the next morning.
Registration to attend will be coming soon. ........................................................................ We are so excited to welcome you back to the events you know and love. As our community’s response to COVID-19 continues to evolve, we will too. Any in-person events will include measures to promote safety and prevent the spread of the coronavirus. While we can’t wait to be together again, nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of our members. We look forward to seeing you soon. Grow
In April, MPISCC recognized Denise Meier and Jenny Hurley, two of our AWESOME volunteers. The two winners of the Volunteer Impact Award for the first quarter of 2021 were announced during one of our virtual events for GMID. We also had an opportunity to connect with both members to learn a little more about their lives!
Volunteering is a great way to get the most out of our membership! To learn more about how you can make an impact, contact Debra Mategrano, vice president of leadership development. Connect
When planners begin the process of vetting venues for their clients, they’re looking for more than just a good meeting or group experience; they are searching for an experience their clients will never forget.
And the BMW Performance Center certainly has the X factor (and the X Models …) when it comes to the ultimate event. We could tell you all the reasons you should book your adrenaline-packed event at the track, but we thought we’d have Chief Driving Instructor Matt Mullins give you the information from behind the wheel and behind the scenes.
Each month, the MPI Southern California Chapter will be shining a spotlight on our chapter members.
This month, we connected with Holly Gandras Smith, director, global sales for MGM Resorts International. Holly celebrates 30 years with the chapter this year and was kind enough to share some of her experiences and fondest memories from her career and with MPISCC.
Read on to learn more about Holly and be sure to congratulate her on 30 years with the organization! Thank you, Holly!

With digital options increasingly becoming part of the long-term meeting landscape and quality expectations rising, meeting professionals and departments are developing new competencies and processes they never thought possible.
It's clear that virtual events don’t feel the same as their in-person equivalents, especially in the exhibit hall. But why not approach that disparity as an opportunity to reshape completely the meeting experience for vendors and exhibitors.
