On Thursday, April 15, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum hosted MPI Southern California Chapter for our first in-person event as part of Global Meetings Industry Day. Guests were invited to a sunset yoga session on the field with fitness influencer Alexis Fischer. Class was followed by a tour of the stadium where attendees received decadently and individually packaged charcuterie boards by Legends Catering. 

As the co-chairs of the You Belong Committee, we are committed to “standing up and speaking out” against hate and racism. This is especially critical given the staggering increase in hate crimes against Asian Americans as well as other marginalized communities. The heartbreaking reality in many of these hate crimes is that there were bystanders who simply observed the transgressions and were either unwilling or unable to provide assistance.

 

 

 

On Thursday, April 8, to highlight Global Meetings Industry Day, MPI hosted GMID: Virtual in conjunction with Meetings Mean Business. The fully virtual day of education included a live, 12-hour broadcast packed with informative sessions, challenges and wellness breaks and peppered with industry updates and RISE Awards announcements throughout the day. While the event ran from 4 a.m. – 4 p.m. PDT, attendees were able to drop in and participate as schedules permitted. Lori Pugh Marcum, CMP, CMM, HMCC, CED, head of meeting innovation for MPI, kept the day rolling as the event emcee while meeting professionals from around the globe tuned in, connected and gained insight on where the industry is headed now.

MPI’s 12-hour Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) broadcast, live from Grapevine, Texas, successfully allowed meeting professionals to take in timely education and connect with the industry and their peers.

The Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board recently announced it will be working toward being certified by Sharecare Verified, a verification for comprehensive health security within hotels. The city’s aim is to create a universal health standard across all its hotels.

 

As we look toward the brighter roads ahead, our official return to "in-person" will be a celebratory chapter event on Sunday, Aug. 15-16. Save the date for the MPI Southern California Family Reunion, a special evening of celebration followed by a morning of education, hosted by Terranea Resort. Our trusted partners at Terranea have been by our side over the past year and are excited to host our inaugural in-person experience. There is no better way to return to events than by experiencing the hospitality of Los Angeles' premier oceanfront resort. Plan to be with us for the evening and through the next morning.
