Digital marketing strategist Mark Evans spoke at MPI Toronto’s May Monthly Meeting on Friday May 6 to a dressed-down crowd of knowledge-hungry meeting professionals at the Delta Chelsea Hotel in Toronto. For an educational session revolving around technology, it was really quite impressive to see the level of involvement and understanding from the members present. The number of hands raised to ask, "What’s the internet?" was at an all time low, and Mr. Evans made it easy to understand how social media can be made relevant to nearly every facet of the meetings industry.
Evans is an expert in modern branding, social media tactics and strategies, and corporate story telling. He broke the ice with some quick quips and handed a book to a gentleman who admitted he wasn’t using any form of social media. He explained the importance of sites such as Facebook and Twitter in the business world today, and how it’s not too difficult to maintain a steady stream of interesting information to entertain, educate, and enlighten your target markets. If you were there and didn’t take notes, or if you weren’t there and wish you were, you can get enlightened daily through Mark’s blogs, Mark Evans Tech and Twitterrati, or follow him on Twitter@markevans.
After the educational session the group headed downstairs to the pub for a delicious buffet. Thank you to our reception sponsor, Destination Halifax, for providing a fabulous door prize of ten pounds of fresh lobster delivered directly to the winner's door. The whole day had a cool vibe and a nice atmosphere. Being on a Friday alleviated some concerns with things such as "going back to work" for many, and offered a stress free environment for networking opportunities.
Many thanks to our industry partners who made this event possible: AVW-TELAV Audio Visual Solutions, Delta Chelsea Hotel, Destination Halifax.
The Education Committee has done a wonderful job all year organizing and executing a number of very successful MPI Toronto Chapter events. For all of you still sitting down as you read this, perhaps a standing ovation is in order for all their hard work, and the hard work of all the other MPI Toronto Chapter volunteers who make the accomplishments of this rapidly growing organization possible.
Bravo, and thank you!
