MPI Toronto Golf Tournament

The 20th Annual Golf Tournament was held June 28 at Royal Woodbine Golf Club on a beautiful sunny day – perfect for golf.
This year the tournament went back to having a BBQ lunch first rather than the boxed lunches, which was very much appreciated by the golfers. The tournament was three hours in length so it was up to the foursomes as to how many holes they completed.
Special thanks were given to Danny Dobriansky, AV-CANADA, for chairing the golf tournament from its inception. In 1997, Danny started to talk about the possibility of MPI Toronto Chapter hosting a golf tournament and he took a proposal to the Board which they accepted and the first tournament was born.
In 1998, the first tournament was held, selling out for most of the first 10 years.
After the first successful tournament, the Board of Directors gave Danny the role of golf chair for an indefinite period of time as he had shown his passion and commitment to making the tournament a success.
This tournament was always billed as a ‘fun’ day out and non-golfers were encouraged to come out and enjoy the game. This did create a slower-paced game, so the committee decided to limit the number of golfers to 110 in 2007 to allow for a slower pace.
In 2014, members were finding it difficult to take a full day to play golf and non-golfers were finding a full day on the golf course was too much, so the committee agreed to start a half day tournament which is the format the chapter still continues to provide.
