A Royal Evening Not to Forget!
This year’s MPI Toronto Awards Gala was held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on March 8, and it was a royal evening not to forget! The theme was "A Royal Affair," where we celebrated the true royalty of MPI Toronto.
The evening started off with a wonderful cocktail reception and elegant ambiance! The buzz in the room from those who came out to support our amazing kings and queens was impressive! The beautiful Red Dress Lady, brought to us by A2D2 Dance Company, set the vibe in the room and made the nominees truly feel like they were at the top! Not to mention the always epic photo booth brought to us by The Image Commission with royal-themed props to really get guests into the mood.
As the attendees made their way into the room for dinner, we were treated with alternating blue and gold tables and chairs with gorgeous candle-lit center pieces brought to us by The Really Fabulous Event Company. AV-CANADA of course outdid themselves again with their red, blue and gold room lighting to enhance the royal feel.
It really was a night of declaration and celebration! The one and only Vikki Zeppa from Ignite Magazine was our emcee and made it a special evening with her wit and all-round lovely, bubbly persona. As the nominees were announced into the room, Vikki shared with us the nominees’ answers to "If you were royal for one day, what would you declare?" Our very own Margaret Binns, recipient of Planner Member of the Year, would declare "That from Monday to Friday, one of the lanes on highway 400 be designated in my name to reduce my commute time to work" ... I think some of us may agree with this law!
A list of all our award recipients include:
- Ryan Peddigrew, New Member of the Year
- Amanda Banh, Norm Neill Student of the Year
- Shannon Valeriote, CMP, CMM, Mentor of the Year
- Zaman Ishaad, Outstanding Volunteer of the Year
- Kris Knox, Supplier of the Year
- Arianna McLaughlin, Literary Award
- Margaret Binns, Planner Member of the Year
- Danny Dobriansky, President’s Award
It was an evening to celebrate the best of the best! Thank you to all those who came out and for those who could not make it - we hope to see you next year!
Congrats again to all the nominees, winners and of course our amazing sponsors. We could not have done it without you!

Ottawa Tourism
As Canada’s capital, our goal is to provide meeting planners and delegates a truly unique Canadian experience that fits the needs of each meeting held in Ottawa and sets each convention up for success. Canadians will recognize themselves in Ottawa, and people from around the world will recognize Canada in Ottawa.
Every single business meeting Ottawa hosts is an opportunity to highlight our stellar convention spaces and beautiful off-site venues, strengthening our local partnerships with businesses across Canada’s Capital Region and positioning the meeting industry as strong participants in boosting the local tourism economy
Not only do business meetings enable face-to-face relationship building, they also allow us to showcase Ottawa’s appeal on the world stage as a unique, accessible and welcoming gathering destination that offers the complete capital experience, tells the story of Canada, and gets people talking. |

We believe that events exist to create a connection. We enjoy working with people who plan meetings and live events to help them achieve their business objectives and create that connection, whether it’s with employees, customers or a brand. We know that the ultimate goal of every event is to create that connection and we help do that in three ways:
- Understanding the unique goals and requirements of each event
- Providing the expertise and technology to create and optimize that connection
- And, execute flawlessly.
