An essential practice in every fleet manager's toolkit should be how to right-size, right-type, and right-fuel a fleet. This presentation provides defined and specific steps how to identify the right number of resources necessary to operate a fleet effectively and efficiently using the Vehicle Allocation Methodology (VAM). The presenter will also share a timely and practical case study showing how Idaho National Laboratory reduced it's motorized fleet size and replaced most of its light duty fleet with alternative fuel/hybrid vehicles, while modernizing an aging transport fleet with more fuel-efficient buses - all through the use of facts and data to overcome the emotional attachment that people have towards vehicle and equipment.
Learning objectives:
- Explain a fact-based, structured approach for determining vehicle requirements (need and mission).
- Discuss right-sizing, right-typing, and right-fueling tools and resources.
- Share a case study that achieved significant reduction and overall modernization of the fleet.
