On Tuesday night, before the awarding of NAFA's highest honors, the Association was proud to announce the public release of the Sustainable Fleet Accreditation Program, which had been in beta-testing throughout 2014.
Signifying a revolutionary step in how fleets define and adhere to sustainable practices, NAFA Fleet Management Association’s Sustainable Fleet Accreditation Program is a tool for fleet management professionals to help increase efficiency, reduce emissions, and conserve fuel for their businesses. In cooperation with CALSTART (a national non-profit clean transportation organization), NAFA developed the program to allow participants to assess and find ways to improve and enhance their practices, as well as recognize these fleets for their sustainable efforts.
The NAFA Sustainable Fleet Accreditation Program is designed to be easy to use. All participants have to do is provide some key metrics about their fleet and historical data points during the enrollment process. The information is held in strict confidentiality. Once the data is entered, CALSTART uses it to perform a review and provide a Tier-Rating Fleet Report Card that provides guidance and suggestions for areas of improvement.
The program recognizes fleet professionals for their efforts to be more environmentally friendly by awarding a Sustainable Fleet Accreditation designation publicly. Additionally, for their own private use, participants are awarded one of four accreditation tiers based on the total number of performance points earned in the rating process.
Overall, the program aims to help fleet professionals take a stand as leaders in the fleet industry and not only improve performance of their fleets and reduce their expenses, but become more sustainable in the process.
"At NAFA, we care deeply about reducing our combined environmental impact," said NAFA CEO Phillip Russo, CAE. "As an industry, we have a unique opportunity to make a difference for the environment."
