New Hybrid Buses Added to Windsor's Fleet

A total of six new hybrid buses will be joining Windsor's fleet this year, even though funding from the province has been canceled. Previously, Ontario paid for one-third of the cost of new buses under the Ontario Bus Replacement Program.

After the tabling of the 2010 provincial budget, it was announced that the program would be canceled. However, Ontario is providing a one-time payment of $1.2 million for bus replacement.  Each bus will cost approximately $620,000.

Currently, there is a total of 37 buses within the fleet that are over the age of 18, and are completely inaccessible. Transit Windsor's General Manager, Penny Williams, stated that Windsor's bus fleet is certainly aging and it will definitely benefit from the investment.
