NAFA Gives Back To The Motor City

The city of Detroit can give off an industrial feel rather than that of a warm, small town. But that changed slightly when 30 NAFA Members and Affiliates lent a hand to help make inviting homes for three families in need on April 23.

"NAFA's Members and Affiliates continue to astound me with their generosity of time and talent," said Phil Russo, CAE, NAFA Executive Director.

Last year's project, which took place just before the annual conference began in New Orleans, will never be forgotten by the volunteers. Dozens arrived to help build homes in a flood-ravaged section of the city and saw firsthand what the destruction had left behind.

This year, NAFA worked with Habitat's Detroit's Vision 2020, which is one of several programs across Michigan created to help strengthen local neighborhoods. Its mission is to develop local revitalization plans to transform targeted neighborhoods by eliminating substandard housing and its causes by the year 2020.

"This was another example of how these professionals give not only to one another but to the community at large," Russo said.

In addition to helping out on the project, NAFA Fleet Management Association made a contribution to help continue Habitat for Humanity projects.
