Proud To Be An Affiliate

I've always been proud to be a NAFA Affiliate, but never more so than now.

NAFA Affiliates are among the most active supporters of the organization. We attend local chapter meetings, chair committees at the chapter level, and are represented as Vice Chair on most NAFA committees. We are exhibitors at I&E, we sponsor events both national and local, and we help keep local chapters vibrant and healthy. More importantly, NAFA Affiliates are a key component of NAFA education. We help create, organize, and deliver almost every aspect of NAFA education and in almost every venue offered.

Now, the NAFA Board has given us another opportunity to serve, and I hope each Affiliate will consider how they can best help their local NAFA Chapter. Recognizing how difficult it is for some chapters to find enough volunteers to fill all of their officer positions, the NAFA Board has voted to allow Affiliates to serve as Secretary or Treasurer of a local chapter. This move will allow the Association to take advantage of the nearly 30 percent of the organization who are Affiliates, using their talents and resources to help keep our local chapters strong.

NAFA always has been, and always will be, an Association for fleet managers. As such, each chapter will decide if taking advantage of the Affiliate resource is in the best interest of their chapter. And, the chapter will always look for a viable fleet manager candidate to fill each officer role. This makes sense for a lot of reasons, however, when your local chapter needs help, we now have an avenue to be a more valuable part of the local chapter team. I hope you will step forward if your chapter calls on you to help.

In addition, each NAFA Chapter should have an Affiliate Chair who acts as the conduit between the national Affiliate Committee and your chapter. We strongly encourage each chapter to fill this role and communicate the name of the Affiliate Chair to NAFA headquarters. If you are an Affiliate and your chapter does not have an Affiliate Chair, please step up and volunteer for that role. If you are a chapter officer, we urge you to fill the Affiliate Chair position in your chapter and let us know who it is.
