Government of Canada Reiterates Commitment to Automotive Industry

In June 2011, Federal Minister of Industry Christian Paradis attended the Automotive Parts Manufacturers' Association Annual Conference and Exhibition.  During the visit, the Minister underlined the Government of Canada's economic agenda and opportunities forthcoming for the automotive industry.

Minister Paradis highlighted that the government will continue to strengthen its industries, such as auto parts manufacturing, with a low-tax plan, continued deductions for modernizing plants and facilities, and incentives for hiring new workers.

The Minister also reminded Canadians that the government is working with President Obama, and have created the joint United States-Canada Regulatory Cooperation Council.  This will help to simplify and align regulations across the border where possible.

Finally, the Minister highlighted that with both Chrylser and GM repaying their loans in full, and the restructuring of two of Canada's key auto manufacturers, the auto industry is revitalized and moving forward.
