Government of Canada Implements New Energy Efficiency Initiatives

The Government of Canada has announced an investment of $78 million over the next two years to create jobs in the energy sector and improve energy efficiency in vehicles, among other areas.

Announced by the Honorable Joe Oliver, Minister of Natural Resources, the ecoENERGY Efficiency initiatives are projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately four megatons. This is the equivalent of removing over one million cars from the road.

A key component of these initiatives, the ecoENERGY Efficiency for Vehicles will provide both individual Canadians as well as Canada’s commercial/institutional fleet sector with important decision-making tools for buying and operating their vehicles to reduce fuel consumption.  In addition, it well help encourage vehicle efficiency by bringing in modified vehicle fuel consumption labels and a light-duty tire information system.

The Government of Canada remains committed to implementing innovative energy efficiency initiatives, including within the automotive sector, to help improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and save money for Canadians and Canadian businesses.
