GM Korea Co., the South Korean unit of U.S. automaker General Motors Co., is recalling nearly 100,000 cars globally for a faulty fuel hose that could cause leaks and provoke the vehicle to come to a sudden halt, the Seoul government said on October 20.
In South Korea alone, 32,618 vehicles are subject to the recall, according to the Ministry of Land, Transport, and Maritime Affairs. They include 23,795 units of the Winstorm 2.0 Diesel and 3,141 units of the Winstorm Max 2.0, both produced between Feb. 11, 2008 and Jan. 2, 2011.
The vehicles are now sold as the Chevrolet Captiva due to GM Korea changing all its vehicle names to Chevrolet brands earlier this year.
Others are 5,479 units of the Lacetti Premier 2.0 Diesel, currently sold as the Chevrolet Cruze, produced between Nov. 4, 2008 to July 20, 2010, along with 104 units of the Lacetti 2.0 Diesel produced between March 13, 2008 and June 18, 2011, and 99 units of the Tosca 2.0 Diesel, now sold as the Chevrolet Epica, produced between Feb. 1, 2008 and June 20, 2011.
The recall also affects 62,945 units of the Chevrolet Captiva, Cruze, and Epica sold globally, the ministry said.
Free repair services for South Korean customers will begin October 21 at all GM Korea service centers. Services for overseas customers will be announced in their respective countries.
