Boarding a bus outside of the Renaissance Grand Hotel in St. Louis, MO on a cold and damp Friday morning at 7:00 a.m., the passengers had an idea of what they were getting into. The yearly partnership between NAFA Fleet Management Association, LeasePlan USA, and the charitable organization Habitat For Humanity promises a day of real labor and uncertain conditions right from the start. Undeterred, this group of individuals including mainstays like Matthew Betz (LeasePlan), Craig Cheatle (QEK), and Bryan Flansburg, CAFM (University of Colorado) put on their game-faces and moved forward.
They were joined by students from Ranken College and Ferris State University, part of NAFA's Student Sponsorship Program.
Sometimes forward meant inside the houses they were working on, or under the outsized prop check that is a staple of such events, as the rain started to fall. Others chalked it up to the need to get the job done and simply got on with it in the wet and the mud.
The results: a group of houses in varying states of development were brought closer to completion, $2,500 was donated to Habitat For Humanity, and the Association continued to prove we are prepared to give as good as we get from our host cities. NAFA plans to once again partner with LeasePlan and Habitat For Humanity for the 2013 I&E in Atlantic City, NJ.
