Electric Car Charger Now Available in Merritt, British Columbia

An electric vehicle charging station from Sun Country Highway has been installed by City of Merritt employees. This is the first of its kind in the region.

Following the official launch of the Plug-in BC program by the provincial government, Sun Country Highway approached the City of Merritt to discuss charging stations. The Plug-in BC program was initiated to encourage the widespread use of electric vehicles and access to chargers.

The charging station has been placed by the Baillie House, located in Merritt. It is hardwired to the BC Hydro grid through a streetlight, is free to use and has one plug.

Sun Country Highway has installed one hundred chargers across Canada. Within British Columbia, Vancouver Island currently has the most stations, with eighteen across the region. The company hopes to see one thousand stations in British Columbia, eventually.
