The First Last Word Of NAFA's FleetFOCUS

Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

As we begin a new year, NAFA is saying goodbye to an old friend.   We're using this opportunity to take a bold step forward with this newsletter.  FleetFOCUS is being renamed NAFAConnection and given a new look, and a new focus.

For years, you've heard me say that NAFA Chapters are the strength of the Association, and I truly believe that.  Each month, hundreds of you get together to network, gain knowledge on an aspect of fleet, and share ideas with your colleagues.  These chapter meetings are a large part of what makes NAFA great.  And that's the main focus of NAFAConnection – NAFA chapters and the Members themselves.

We want everyone to know about the great work your local chapter and your colleagues are doing.  Each issue will contain previews and recaps of NAFA chapter meetings and events – full of photographs and even video -- features on NAFA Members, and articles to help you get the most out of your chapter.

We're still going to bring you all of the industry news that has been part of FleetFOCUS for years.  In fact, we're not dropping anything, we're just adding.  You'll still get news about the fleet and automotive industry, news about NAFA, legislative updates from our U.S. and Canadian counsels, Tom Webb's Remarketing Strategy column, Affiliates Forum, Career Corner job notices, and my monthly column. We’re adding video to the mix to provide a more dynamic feel with easier communication of important messages.

Video is an important part of NAFA's communication strategy. Not only will you go behind-the-scenes, but you'll get there with dynamic content like you've never seen before.  An example of this appeared in the January/February 2013 issue of FLEETSolutions where we featured a "trick" cover that showed a van having its vehicle wrap pulled back to show the newly wrapped van on the inside.  If you scanned the QR code shown there, you were directed to a video showing an actual van being wrapped with a special 2013 I&E promotional look! The wrapping was done by Associated Graphics, Inc., and it came out so well, I wished I could drive that van throughout the state to promote the conference!

And we’ll be ramping up social media, in both the newsletter and with the Association as a whole, to more easily connect you with your colleagues. We want NAFAConnection to connect you to your colleagues in ways we couldn't even have imagined just a few years ago.  From LinkedIn to Facebook and Twitter, we're going to take the Association to a new level.

Obviously, we can't do this alone. With more than 30 chapters, NAFA staff simply cannot cover every event, so we're going to rely on the chapters to come on board with the project.  The more information a chapter can provide us (detailed information for previews and recaps, photographs, videos, etc.), the more coverage they'll receive.  My hope is that the issue is so chock full of information that it shows how great our chapters really are.

With the new look, NAFA members, like yourself, are the stars of the show.  It all begins in two weeks with the arrival of NAFAConnection, and we can't wait for you to see all the cool stuff we have in store.

Sincerely,

NAFA Executive Director
Phillip E. Russo, CAE
