Rocky Mountain: The Chapter That "Saved" Christmas

Thanks to the efforts of NAFA’s Rocky Mountain Chapter, a holiday in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy was made a little lighter. The Chapter collected money and gift cards at their year-end meeting. It was after an Association-wide donation was arranged and sent to aid organizations arranged by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Nonetheless, the Chapter was compelled to help. Chapter Leader Scott Edwards, CAFS, Fleet Manager for University of Boulder gave the donation of $590, in gift cards, to the Association home office in Princeton, New Jersey. It was delivered by Chapter Member and Affiliate Mark Petersen.
One of the harder-hit towns along the New Jersey coastline is Manasquan. Located between Belmar and Point Pleasant Beach, two other towns that rely heavily on their beachfront economies, Manasquan had just come through many weeks without power, impassable roads, and inspections that found many houses uninhabitable. Using the Rocky Mountain funds, Deputy Executive Director Patrick McCarren was able to donate to the Squan Strong relief fund, right before Christmas.
Not long after, the office received a message from the organization working in Manasquan and asked that the message be passed on throughout the Association: About an hour after you came in (with the donation), we had a mom with three older college kids. Not one thing for Christmas for them. I grabbed (the gift cards) cards you gave and handed them over. She cried. Christmas miracle and perfect timing! Merry Christmas!"
Special thanks once again to the Members of the Rocky Mountain Chapter, whose determination to be of service in a time of crisis is a reminder for all who might lapse into cynicism. Doing good has no deadline.
