Sonoma County, CA, announced that NAFA Member David Worthington, CAFM, has been promoted new fleet operations manager for the County from the Assistant position. He will begin his new post on April 16 and is replacing Dave Head, current Fleet Manager and NAFA Member, who will retire effective April 15.

Sonoma County chose Worthington, a Member of NAFA's San Francisco Chapter, out of 64 applicants for the position. Worthington has been assistant fleet manager for the County since 2007. He has more than 23 years of comprehensive operational and management experience in the automotive and truck industries, which includes fleet management, franchised truck dealerships, wholesale and retail part operations, insurance claims, collision repair, general repair, and sales.

"Since joining the County, David has been our primary shop floor guru along with assisting in the development and implementation of many of the County’s fleet initiatives and programs," wrote Jose Obregon, Director of General Services. "We are proud that David rose to the top in a very competitive field and know his familiarity with County fleet operations will facilitate his continued success in this demanding position."

"I’m very happy with the selection of David Worthington to take my place as fleet manager for Sonoma County," Head said. "Our operation has many challenges over the next few years including expansion of our EV charger network and integrating plug-in vehicles into the fleet and design and construction of a new Fleet Services Center. David’s background in business and his experience working here for the past five years have given him the right tools in the right place at the right time. I think he will do very well."

"I am very grateful for the opportunity to continue the great work that Dave Head has accomplished for the County over his 25+ years as the fleet manager," Worthington said. "We have a great dedicated team in place to continue to adapt, improve, and advance the organization that Dave will be stepping away from. I feel fortunate to be part of the organization and work with such a great team. I like to use the analogy of our operation being similar to an old car radio where you had one knob that you used to quickly tune in your favorite station and another to fine tune the frequency for the best sound possible. We already have our operation working well and now we are just constantly working at fine-tuning it. I am looking forward to the future and all of the challenges that it presents for the County as a whole and specifically for Fleet Operations."

Worthington earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the California State University, Sacramento in Business Administration and an Associate of Science Degree in Business Administration from the Santa Rosa Junior College. He has earned more than 65 industry-related certifications and licenses and is a contributing member of multiple professional organizations and associations.
