Prior to the start of the annual conference, dozens of NAFA Members and Affiliates joined together a day early for a Habitat For Humanity project in Mays Landing, NJ, dealing primarily with painting. For the fifth straight year, LeasePlan provided transportation, t-shirts, and bottled water for the volunteers.

The Salvation Army provided hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch. When the day ended, Habitat For Humanity was provided with a sizable donation to help the organization continue its work throughout the year.

Joining the work crew on-site was incoming NAFA President Claude Masters, CAFM, of Florida Power & Light. He is no stranger to repairs in the aftermath of storms in his own region, but like most of the volunteers was still taken aback by the magnitude of Sandy’s effects, roughly half-a-year after the event. Masters said of NAFA’s ongoing support of Habitat For Humanity in conjunction with the I&E: "It’s an opportunity to mobilize a group of people, and who are more motivated than fleet industry people? They bring that same level of spirit to helping out others as they do with their own work, and they get paid back with a sense of accomplishment in doing what’s right."

A complete, detailed recap of the I&E will be available soon throughout NAFA publications and by email.
