The Pacific Southwest Chapter held their annual Safety Meeting on Tuesday, May 14 at the Cerritos College Automotive Technology Center.

The morning began with networking and coffee. New Chapter Chair Tony Orta offered opening remarks to shed some light on his vision for the chapter under his guidance. "To ensure that this chapter continues to provide added value to its members, I will work with your chapter leadership to focus on three key areas that I believe will strengthen our chapter.  Those three key areas are identifying and presenting relevant fleet topics; getting membership input; and engaging in effective communication," Orta said. He then discussed several actions that would directly engage with those key areas.

Relevant FLEET Topics
Leveraging Technology – (Information & Diagnostic to improve the bottom line)
Vehicle Acquisition & Maintenance Strategies
Sustainability (Alternative fuels)
Safety (Driving, Ergonomics, Maintenance Operations)
Industry Best Practices Sharing
Key Workshops
Membership Input

Orta also thanked outgoing Chapter Chair Rick Sikes for, "...his continued dedication and support of not only our chapter as our Vice Chair, but also his tireless commitment to the NAFA organization on a National level."

After lunch, the chapter heard presentations from Janet Malig, Director of Cerritos College's Advanced Transportation Technologies and Energies Department concerning NAFA's CAFM/CAFS partnership with them; a session regarding distracted driving and general safety via the California Highway Patrol; and safe and efficient driving techniques with Mark A. Lujan, the Eco Driving Project Manager of Fleet Services for Southern California Gas Company.
