Old Dominion Chapter Has Thoughtful Discussion About Fleet's "Laws Of The Land"

The Old Dominion Chapter met on Wednesday, August 21, at Sandston, VA Holiday Inn. The topic of the day was "Federal legislation and regulation that impacts fleet management" presented by Patrick O’Connor, President of Kent and O’Connor, Inc.  Patrick is NAFA's U.S. Legislative Counsel and received honorary membership in 1995. Patrick is an experienced lobbyist before the Congress and state and federal regulatory agencies. He has worked on Capitol Hill in both the Congress and Senate.

Legislation is a prime force that moves, shapes, and often disrupts fleet management. From alternative fuels to fuel economy standards; from OSHA to the Department of Transportation; from distracted driving to vehicle safety standards, lawmakers and regulators are changing the way fleets are operated and creating new challenges for the professional fleet manager. Patrick touched on all these subjects during his presentation, providing the Old Dominion Chapter members an invaluable amount of knowledge about current regulatory issues and what's coming around the bend.

For everyone who did not have the ability to attend, NAFA publishes U.S. and Canadian legislative news twice-monthy in NAFAConnection (see further in this very newsletter for more) and monthly in the Legislative Updates newsletter. NAFA's signature publication, FLEETSolutions magazine, also goes into depth about the subjects that directly influence fleet and it's effective operations.

Special thanks to Old Dominion Chapter Chair Jodie Bentley, Charles Gibbens, and Chapter Secretary Christina Covaney for materials in this article.
