The holidays bring festive sights and sounds to all, and that includes NAFA's Chapters. December finds our chapters hosting traditional year-end celebrations, and making the most of the opportunities. With the collective good will and charity of our members, NAFA regularly turns such gatherings into ideal ways to contribute to causes that are close to the hearts of members.
A sampling of the chapters' plans include fundraisers for charities from all walks of life. We encourage you to come and celebrate with your fleet peers, network and enjoy, and consider those who are not as fortunate at this time of year.
On December 3, the Philadelphia Chapter's holiday luncheon will be supporting the Phelen-McDemitt Syndrome Foundation in memory of Jack O’Donnell. O'Donnell was active in the NAFA Philadelphia Chapter and served as Vice-Chair and Chair in the 1980s.
The Chicago Chapter (12/4), Carolinas Chapter (12/5), and Nation's Capital Chapter (12/5) will be collecting for Toys For Tots, while the New York-InterCounty Chapter will host a Make-A-Wish Foundation Fundraiser on December 11.
Christmas often brings to mind children in need, and efforts to address more direct necessities for them are seen with the NorCal-Northern Nevada Chapter meeting (12/5) whose charity drive commemorates the 21st year of their support for the Bay Area Crisis Nursery. Meanwhile, the Mid-America Chapter will be raising funds for Smiles Change Lives, a program that provides orthodontic treatment for children, on December 10. Also on December 10, the New Jersey Chapter will meet at Maggiano's in Bridgewater and will be lending support to the Wounded Warrior Project, The organization's goals are to raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members, to help injured service members aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.
The citizens of several Colorado regions suffered tremendous loss and hardship due to disastrous fires and flooding in 2013. To do their part, the Rocky Mountain Chapter will raise money for their local American Red Cross chapter, benefiting flood & fire victims of Colorado, on December 13.
On December 18, the St. Louis Chapter's annual charity meeting will benefit Stray Animal Rescue of St. Louis.
Wherever you are, NAFA's chapters are a terrific way of staying in touch with fellow members, learning about what is new in the industry and in the Association, and to enjoy an afternoon or evening. But these gatherings also present fleet individuals at their finest and most caring. We hope to see you at your chapter meetings this holiday season.
