More Than Five Million GM Vehicles Recalled In March

The torrent of General Motors’ recalls continued on March 31 when the company announced it was recalling 1.3 million cars because they may experience a sudden loss of electric power steering.

The recall of GM products is becoming a regular occurrence and this action puts the automaker at more than five million vehicles recalled in March.

On March 28, the maker added another 971,000 products covered by a deadly ignition switch problem as well as another 172,000 newer Chevrolet Cruze sedans, and 490,000 full-size pickups and sport-utility vehicles with both Chevy and GMC nameplates.

In this case, if power steering assist is lost, a message displays on the Driver Information Center and a chime sounds to inform the driver. Steering control can be maintained because the vehicle will revert to manual steering, but greater driver effort would be required at low vehicle speeds, which could increase the risk of a crash.
