In partnership with The Forks, the Manitoba government has launched its first publicly accessible electric-vehicle (EV) charging station in Winnipeg. Municipal Government Minister Stan Struthers announced that the station will support and encourage the use of clean, electric-powered transportation.
It is the hopes that as electric vehicles continue to become more and more popular, Manitoba’s low-priced electricity will aid in making this option more affordable and a great alternative to other vehicles.
The new charging station has been installed at a dedicated EV-only parking space located near The Forks Market main entrance. Plans are also underway to install additional EV public charging stations at other sites. The level two chargers provide 240 volts and will provide a full charge in approximately half the time of a level one charger.
Also announced was the launch of a new website:
www.driveelectricmanitoba.ca, which offers information on available services for electric vehicles. Both the new charging station and the website are key components of the province’s electric-vehicle roadmap.
