Changes In Trucking Regulations And The National Safety Code
The Transportation Association of Canada’s annual conference took place in Montreal on October 1, and resulted in the approval of changes in trucking regulations by federal, provincial, and territorial Transportation and Highway Safety Ministers.
The Federal/Provincial/Territorial Memorandum of Understanding on Interprovincial Weights and Dimensions (MOU), recommended the three following changes:
Integration Of The Tridem DriveTractor
- The Tridem DriveTractor is useful for heavy shipments where further traction is required.
Size Of Aerodynamic Devices On Rear Of Trucks And Trailers To Increase From 0.9 m To 1.52 m
- It will ameliorate fuel-efficiency, reduce emissions and be aligned with the United States’ regulations.
Overall Length Limit For B Train Double Trailer Combinations To Increase From 25 m To 27.5 m
- Gives trucks more room to house green technology equipment.
- Enhance safety measures
- Upgrade driver comfort
It is crucial for all governments to implement these new changes in order to have a proficient transportation network and to have standardized safety measures across Canada.
