Electric Vehicles From Coast To Coast
In British Columbia, the City of Victoria, and the district of Saanich have jointly purchased electric vehicles in order to benefit from the government’s rebates. On the other coast of the country, the Quebec Electric Circuit has reached 5,000 members.
The joint purchase of the two municipalities has allowed them to buy nine vehicles overall and save $3,000 per vehicle.
"This kind of small-scale collaboration is exactly what municipalities across the region need to do more of. It’s good for everyone’s bottom line and it’s what our residents and business owners expect," declared Lisa Helps, Mayor of Victoria.
In Quebec, the Electric Circuit, which is the prominent public electric vehicle charging network, has now reached 5,000 members. This means that 70 percent of Quebecers have an Electric Circuit card.
"Since its launch in March 2012, the Electric Circuit has expanded considerably and remains the largest public charging network for electric vehicles in Québec. This initiative, carried out thanks to the support of the network’s partners, makes a significant contribution to transportation electrification by meeting the charging needs of electric vehicle owners. It is worth noting that Québec is home to nearly half the electric vehicles sold in Canada," declared France Lampron, Director – Transportation Electrification at Hydro-Québec.
Finally, electric vehicles seem to have gained popularity from coast to coast within the country also, as governments are implementing policies to encourage such purchases which could have a potential impact for NAFA members and fleet managers in general.
