NAFA Attends Expert Panel on Drug-Impaired Driving

NAFA joined safety groups and legislative staff for a drug-impaired driving panel assessing the impact of cannabis and other substances. The panel was hosted by Advocates for Highway & Auto Safety and included expert speakers specializing in policy, law enforcement, healthcare, and advocacy. The panel discussed the rise in drug-impaired driving in the United States and presented research on best practices for detection and deterrence to help inform ongoing policymaking and priorities.
During the panel, the Advocates for Highway & Auto Safety endorsed S.2604, the Reduce Impaired Driving for Everyone (RIDE) Act, and its House companion bill, H.R.4354, the HALT Act. The legislation would require advanced alcohol detection technology to be present in new motor vehicles to prevent drivers impaired over the legal limit from starting cars.
