North Carolina City Adopts Green-fleets Policy

The city of Washington, N.C., has adopted a new green-fleets policy to help ease the rising fuel costs that impact the city budget.

Under the policy, city owned and operated cars and trucks can use alternative fuels and take advantage of emissions reduction technologies. In addition to Washington, other North Carolina towns including Winston-Salem and Chapel Hill have adopted similar policies. Washington plans to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) from its fleet by a total of 15 percent by the year 2012.
