Ten Indiana Towns Receive Electric Cars

Ten Indiana municipalities were among thirteen in the State that received electric vehicles manufactured in Elkhart, during the week of September 19.

Cedar Lake, Chesterton, Crown Point, Dyer, Gary, Hammond, LaPorte, Michigan City, Schererville, and Whiting joined Angola, Elkhart, and South Bend in receiving the vehicles at the Purdue Technology Center of Northwest Indiana in Crown Point.

The vehicles were awarded through funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act through the state of Indiana and a grant application from South Shore Clean Cities.

Two THINK City electric vehicles were presented to officials from LaPorte and Michigan City. The vehicle is the first electric car to be granted pan-European regulatory safety approval.

"South Shore Clean Cities' goal is to work on building partnerships to reduce petroleum use in transportation," Carl Lisek, Executive Director of South Shore Clean Cities said in a news release. "This will assist us in making Indiana ready for electric vehicles and coordinating unity in our communities."
