Car Recall Info To Appear On NHTSA Real-Time Website
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) plans to request more recall data from car makers, for a real-time recall website. Under a new NHTSA rule, light vehicle makers would have to specify the vehicle type and the fuel and/or propulsion system type in their reports. The NHTSA also plans to add new component categories of stability control systems for makers of light vehicles, buses, emergency vehicles, and medium-heavy vehicles, and forward collision avoidance, lane departure prevention, and backover prevention for makers of light vehicles.
The NHTSA has also proposed requiring vehicle makers to report their annual list of substantially similar vehicles via the Internet. The agency is accepting comments regarding these proposals until November 9.
