Western Canada Chapter Holds Third Webcast Chapter Meeting

The Western Canada Chapter had its third Webcast Chapter Meeting on Wednesday, January 16 at noon MST. Western Canada Chapter Chair Jim Laverty, Vehicle Pool Manager at the University of Alberta, provided NAFAConnection with information on the webcast meeting.

The topic was Fleet Safety and was presented by Kenji Kinoshita, Fleet Safety Officer for the University of Alberta in Edmonton. It was moderated by Jim Perkins CAFM, Fleet Manager for Metro Vancouver.

Kenji is a former City of Edmonton police officer and crash reconstruction expert. He discussed the development of the University of Alberta's fleet safety program and the components of the program as it is today. Classroom plus in-car driver training designed to improve eye lead time and how to react correctly when the vehicle leaves the road unexpectedly has led to a sixty percent reduction in claims cost at the University. Kenji presented a PowerPoint presentation complete with handout and there was a question and answer period after the presentation.

There were 25 participants logged in from various locations in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.

In other news, Laverty said the webcast model was about to take a big step forward when Western Canada holds their next session. "For the first time ever, we are going to try and webcast our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 13. The meeting is being held in conjunction with the Calgary Auto Show. There will be a luncheon at the AGM. We will be webcasting from the BMO Centre in Calgary, Alberta and will be an opportunity for all our members to take part in the meeting."

Exact time for this meeting and web simulcast is still to be confirmed.
