Former Pro Racer Derek Daly To Be Keynote Speaker At NAFA's 2013 I&E On Thursday, April 25
Former race car driver and CEO of professional services company MotorVation Derek Daly will be the Keynote Speaker on Thursday, April 25 at NAFA's 2013 I&E in Atlantic City, NJ.
Daly’s professional racing career spanned seventeen years, winning the 1977 British Formula Three Championship, and participating in 64 World Championship Formula One Grands Prix. He scored a total of 15 championship points. He also participated in several non-Championship Formula One races. In 1982, Daly began driving in the CART series and continued through 1989. He started 66 CART races, including each Indianapolis 500 from 1983–1989, except for 1986. He finished in the top ten a total of 21 times, including one podium finish, 3rd position, at Milwaukee in 1987.
In 1990, Daly had the unusual result of finishing both first and second at the 12 Hours of Sebring, driving for Nissan. Notoriously, Daly is also known for a major crash in 1984 at Michigan International Speedway, his car hurtling into the concrete track wall at 212 mph. After fourteen surgeries and three years in therapy, he returned full-time to racing.
Today, Daly is CEO/Founder of MotorVation which specializes in team-building systems. The company uses racing as a metaphor for business, specifically with the aspect that rather than having the spotlight solely trained on the individual race car driver, the sport relies on team effort: the driver, but also the mechanics, pit crew, the administrative figures that facilitate the business partnerships and sponsorships all play crucial parts in getting the car onto the track.
The company's practices rest on the belief that, to enable people to change their belief systems and subsequently their behavior, it is imperative to emotionally engage them. MotorVation believes the business of motor sports uniquely parallels the business of corporate America and uses that belief in their team-building tools and solutions.
