Rocky Mountain Chapter Goes To College!
The February meeting of NAFA's Rocky Mountain Chapter was held at the Lincoln College of Technology in Denver, CO. The meeting this month was jam-packed full of information for Members!
Chapter Chair Scott Edwards, CAFM opened the meeting by welcoming everyone to the facility and explaining what would be covered for the morning event. Programs included two demonstrations of NAFA's on-line technology and how they benefit the membership; elections for the new term, which begins at the I&E in April, followed; and finally, there would be a tour of the college.
The first of two webinars on NAFA's Technology was focused on the NAFA.org website and was moderated by Christine Hamershock, Senior Marketing Manager for NAFA. Christine reviewed the different features available on the site, including a brief review of the newly revamped FleetED site which gives members access to NAFA's vast research library and other important tools for the membership.
Following Christine's presentation, Scott presided over the election for the chapter officers for the coming year. Following NAFA's nomination/election guidelines, Art Hale, CAFM, the Nominating Committee Chair and Chapter Vice Chair emailed all members last month with the information they needed to place names into nomination for the chapter's elected positions. During this part of the meeting, Art and Scott announced the slate of nominees for office, and called again for any additional nominations before holding the election. All positions were elected unanimously by the membership. The Rocky Mountain Chapter slate of officers for the 2013 - 2014 year are:
Chapter Chair: Art Hale, State of Colorado
Chapter Vice Chair: Linda George, CH2M Hill
Chapter Secretary: Randy Shadley, Corporate Claims Mgmt.
Chapter Treasurer: Linda George, CH2M Hill
Linda George will serve in the two positions temporarily. It was hoped that a candidate would be found to fill the Vice Chair position in the near future.
The second webinar was on NAFA's newly relaunched FleetED site. Kimla Beasley, former NAFA staffer and now trusted contractor, moderated this session. Kimla walked the members through the new site and pointed out many new features that have been added. Overall the site's new user interface will make it easier for members to find the information they need in their jobs when they need it. In addition, she reviewed the My FleetED tab which allows members to personalize their experience. They can even make the My FleetED page their personal homepage. After the webinar, NAFA Affiliate Mark Petersen (Hourglass Mgmt.), Vice Chair of the FleetED Advisory Council for NAFA answered member questions.
After a short break, attending Chapter Members were broken into two groups in order to tour Lincoln College. The technical school was focused on vehicle technology which included mechanical for cars and diesel equipment, body shop skills, and welding. This may sound like an over simplification of what they do. Their classrooms were filled with men and women of all ages where they all have the opportunity to learn from master technicians in a classroom environment and in labs. The college also has schools located in other parts in the country. This location runs three shifts of classes throughout the day and enrollment is at full capacity! The tour guide explained that the students receive job placement help when they finish their course work as well.
The next meeting for NAFA's Rocky Mountain Chapter will be held on March 22, which will begin at the downtown Colorado University campus before moving to the Denver Convention Center to attend the Annual Car Show. Meeting details will be announced soon.
Special thanks to Rocky Mountain Chapter Chair Scott Edwards, CAFM and Chapter member Mark Petersen for their contribution.
