NAFA's Greening Up At I&E
The I&E is the place where fleet comes to meet and do business, but in years past it has also been the place that generated a lot of excess paper. In keeping with fleet and the membership's desire to move decisively toward sustainability, NAFA is streamlining.
The print station kiosks associated with the registration desk is the first and most prominent change this year. "It came down to a simple case of redundancy," said NAFA Executive Director Phillip E. Russo, CAE. "NAFA provides the information attendees will need right from the I&E website -- www.nafainstitute.org -- and we have a partnership with Map Your Show which will help attendees plan and navigate the Expo floor. With all of that info at your fingertips with smartphones and tablets, still having print stations just seemed like a waste of paper and resources."
Russo hastened to add, "Attendees will still be able to print out session handouts at home or their office before or after the I&E, but we felt it was best to reduce the use of paper at I&E."
Another change is coming to the 2012 Annual Report which will be distributed as a PDF this year. Since this is a document every member will want to be familiar with, it will be provided in an economical way that can be referenced not just at the I&E but throughout the year in the NAFA archive.
There will still be printed publications like NAFA's blockbuster conference issue of FLEETSolutions and the daily I&E News, but owing to their use as a resource for fleet professionals long after the I&E, they tend not to become a part of the paper-flow after the conference is done. And this year we think you will agree that both publications will be keepers (wait until you see them)!
Institute & Expo is the place where fleet "walks the walk" and we're sure you will be pleased by the efforts being undertaken at I&E 2013.
