Electric vehicle charging stations have been installed by the City of Langley at both City Hall and the Operations Centre. The installation of the new stations was made possible through funds from the Fraser Basin Council’s Community Charging Infrastructure (CCI) Program.

The new stations are available for public use during regular working hours at each facility. City Mayor Peter Fassbender highlighted that the city remains committed and is playing its part to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions, in order to help provide for a cleaner environment.

The project cost a total of $28,000, with the City contributing $13,000. In order to assist with the promotion of the program and encourage motorists to consider electric vehicles as they move forward, the charging stations will be free of charge for the initial period.

The City of Langley is now part of a British Columbia-wide network of charging stations across the province.


An electric vehicle charging station has officially been opened at Municipal Hall in Esquimalt. The station will be made available to residents and visitors alike, while visiting the township’s core area.

Announced by Mayor Barb Desjardins, charging station is part of the Township’s Official Community Plan, which includes the goal to reduce community greenhouse gas emissions by at least 38 percent by the year 2020 and 83 percent by the year 2050, compared to 2007 levels.

Funding for the project was made possible through the provincial Community Charging Infrastructure (CCI) Fund, which covered a portion of the cost of installing the Level 2 EV charging station. CCI’s program goal includes the installation of 570 stations across British Columbia.

It has been projected that there will be 84 stations in the Capital Region by the spring of 2013. Currently, there are 14 commercially available electric vehicle and hybrid vehicle models on the market. By 2030, it is estimated that there will be one million electric vehicles on the roads across BC.
