Photo Gallery: More Than Burger Time At Chicago Chapter's Safety Meeting

On Wednesday, August 7, the Chicago NAFA Chapter hosted an educational meeting, focused on safety, at the McDonald’s Headquarters campus in Oak Brook, IL. Forty-nine Members, Affiliates, and guests attended this well-received event. The board arranged for three speakers to attend who are seen as subject matter experts in the field.
Safety Presenters: Mike McDonald, Director of Asset Management at Mosaic, current Midwest Chapter Chair, and National Membership Chair; Don Schaefer, Director, Safety & Fleet Operations at USG Corp; Dan Shive, Vice President, Risk Management Services at LeasePlan
Joining the chapter from Omaha, NE, Mike McDonald presented his recent findings and the benefits from utilizing telematics. Mosaic is in the process of rolling out telematics devices to their entire 750+ unit fleet, and is utilizing them to improve operational efficiency and reduce risk exposure.

Next, Don Schaefer spoke about USG Corp’s safety culture and how it applies to fleet operations. Don discussed the challenges he faced internally and how he overcame them to successfully navigate and enforce their safety fleet policies.

Audience members participated in interactive questions and discussed best-in-class practices. It was an engaging and valuable event where fleet novices and experts alike were able to take away new ideas for how they can improve their own internal safety fleet programs.
