City of Montreal Joins The Electric Circuit

Following the most recent announcement from the City of Gatineau, the Mayor of Montréal has announced that the city of Montréal is also joining the Electric Circuit. The Electric Circuit was launched in March 2012 and is the largest network of public charging stations in Québec. Its founding partners include Les Rôtisseries St-Hubert, RONA, METRO, the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT), and Hydro-Québec. The Electric Circuit will play a vital role in the expansion of charging infrastructure that will be necessary for the arrival of plug-in vehicles in Québec moving forward.

A total of 80 public charging stations will be installed in municipal parking lots throughout the city. The stations, which are designed and manufactured in Québec, will bring the total number of charging stations to 250.

Martine Ouellet, Québec’s Minister of Natural Resources reiterated the government’s commitment to improving both the environment as well as economic development in the province, with the electrification of transportation.  The Minister highlighted that this initiative will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while at the same time create a number of jobs.

Montréal will have the most charging stations, out of all Electric Circuit partners. The 240-V charging stations will be installed by the end of the year. Additionally, in the spring of 2014, a pilot project will be launched to study the installation of curbside charging stations in Montréal.

Since its launch, the Electric Circuit now has a total of 46 private and institutional partners.
