Additional Fleet of Streetcars in Toronto

The City of Toronto will soon have an additional fleet of streetcars from which commuters will be able to benefit from starting August 31. This project was carried out through the investments from the federal, provincial, and municipal governments in order to replace the old fleet of streetcars.

These 204 new vehicles will be much more comfortable as they will be larger, air conditioned, safer, and take in up to 68 passengers in comparison to the older ones.

"Ontario is making record investments in public transit all across the province, including $416 million in funding for these new streetcars. The new streetcars will be a significant improvement over the current fleet, providing easier access for more riders. Our investment is helping to improve accessibility, reduce congestion on our roads, and contributing to a better quality of life for people in Toronto," said the Honourable Steven Del Duca, Ontario Minister of Transportation.

With the increased capacity and comfort of this new fleet, the City of Toronto is able to offer greater service to its citizens and tourists.
