NAFA To Detail Sustainable Fleet Standard Program At 2014 AltCar Expo And Conference

Achieving fleet sustainability requires a new way of looking at everything. Operations, vehicle types, policies, and even aspects of driver training will be affected in order to make sustainability an instinctive part of how fleets work. Yet it will take instruction and direction to make this fundamental shift successful. NAFA Fleet Management Association is ready to provide just that.

On September 19, NAFA will anchor a full day of sessions at the 2014 AltCar Expo and Conference in Santa Monica, CA, featuring instruction and case studies in fuel management, a CAFM Boot Camp session devoted to the fuel management fleet discipline, and an in-depth look at NAFA's Sustainable Fleet Standard Program which is set to launch in 2015. This dive into the subjects of fuels and resources represents a natural partnership between NAFA’s commitment to fleet sustainability and the AltCar Expo and Conference.

"NAFA's sessions at AltCar are insightful and educational, and I'm sure that after attendees have gone through the details of the Sustainable Fleet Standard Program they will be more than ready to share it all with their supervisors," said NAFA Chief Executive Officer Phillip E. Russo, CAE. "The pairing of NAFA with the AltCar Expo and Conference makes perfect sense and offers a tremendous two-day base-jump into this new dynamic for the industry."

Presented by NAFA's Director of Professional Development Katherine Vigneau, CAFM and NAFA Vice President Bryan Flansburg, CAFM, these sessions offer fresh perspectives on all of fleet's eight disciplines and provide attendees with true, actionable information that they can use to improve their fleets. They will also receive an executive brief on the NAFA Sustainable Fleet Standard Program, what it is and what it will do, why it is a unique plan for the fleet profession, who can take part in it, and how they too can be a part of it.

In the words of Rick Sikes, CAFM, Fleet Superintendent for the City of Santa Monica, "The AltCar Expo and Conference is designed specifically to address the issues on the minds of alternative fuel vehicle industry professionals, government agencies, and fleet managers. It's an opportunity to share best practices with peers and get an understanding of what's coming next in terms of policy, innovation, and products."

The 2014 AltCar Expo and Conference, celebrating its ninth season this September 19-20, will take place at the Santa Monica Civic Center, and will showcase the latest and greatest offerings from major automakers as well as other businesses large, medium, and small. AltCar's goal is to provide an accessible and comprehensive setting where both industry and the general public can discover existing alternatives to the way they use energy and transportation, and motivate everyone to take further action.

NAFA and its members are committed to improving vehicle efficiency and reducing emissions. Developed in conjunction with CALSTART, the NAFA Sustainable Fleet Standard Program will pioneer a movement in the fleet community, which emphasizes the economic and environmental benefits and overall importance of sustainability. Initial participants in the Sustainable Fleet Standard Program include fleets from the private, public and utility fleets.  These include Florida Power and Light, Verizon, Republic Services, PepsiCo/Frito Lay, Time Warner Cable, the City of Boston, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

"I encourage everyone to attend the AltCar Expo and Conference to learn more about NAFA's Sustainable Fleet Standard Program," said Russo. "This will be a transformative effort for fleet and I believe fleet professionals will want to get in on the ground floor once they know what the program can do for them."
