NAFA's NorCal Nevada Mix A Bit Of The Old And A Lot Of The New

A little bit of the past, and a whole lot of the future was on display at the North American Green Fleet Forum, held at the California Automobile Museum in Sacramento, CA, on October 15 and 16. There were 216 attendees, 43 vendors, and 10 presenters/speakers in all for the event; an impressive number!

With a back drop of historical, vintage, and classic cars, NAFA's NorCal-Northern Nevada Chapter members and attendees examined the new lineup of sustainability-minded hydrogen, electric, propane, CNG, and LNG fueled vehicles and equipment, along with various hybrids of all makes and models.

NAFA's NorCal-Northern Nevada Chapter partnered with Sacramento Clean Cities and Tom Johnson (100 Best Fleets) for this combined event.

The event included Petroleum Reduction Technologies Workshop presented by Mark Schmidt of North American Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC) a program of West Virginia University. Mark highlighted several alternative fuels along with advance technology and strategies for fleets to reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil.

Tom Johnson presented the Green Fleet Best Practices and announced the winners of Green Fleet Awards for 2014. City of Kansas City took top honors as the "Greenest Fleet" in the nation out of hundreds of entries. See the entire list at http://the100best.com/gf_winners_2014.htm

Many of them were provided an opportunity to tour the country’s only anaerobic digester machine turning food waste into fuel. Read the entire story about this amazing project at http://www.futurestructure.com/From-Farm-to-Fork-to-Fuel.html and how the City of Sacramento partnered with CleanWorld and Atlas Waste to capture methane from food waste and use it in their fleet trucks.

The expo part of the event featured more than 40 vendors displaying AFVs, including hydrogen and plug-in advanced-technology vehicles for everyday fleet use. Toyota shared a rare preview of its not-yet-released Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicle. (Interior pictures are restricted until the grand reveal at the LA Auto Show November 21-30.)
